UK TV Presenter Kate Thornton
UK TV presenter Kate Thornton was already enjoying a glittering career in journalism (as the youngest editor ever of the magazine Smash Hits at age 22), and as a TV presenter (hosting Pop Idol: Extra, Top of the Pops, and Don’t Try This at Home) when she landed the high-profile gig as the first presenter to front the brand new X-Factor talent show for Simon Cowell. It was obviously the next logical step in the career of this super-talented young girl, but, sadly, it was to also to become the start of her downfall in TV presenting.
As an assured host of one of the hardest gigs on TV, demonstrated by the unconvincing stints of Caroline Flack and Olly Murs, it came as quite a surprise to the Journalist Kate Thornton when she was unceremoniously sacked in 2007, three years into the run of the show, by her boss, Simon Cowell. Dermot O’Leary replaced her and has gone on to make a great success of hosting the show.
Kate was devastated and vowed never to speak to music mogul Simon Cowell ever again as he had given her no warning even though they had become good friends. As disclosed to Closer Magazine, Kate suspected that she was fired to create headlines for the show at the expense of her career and said she couldn’t watch the show as it would be like watching your ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend.
However, since then Kate has had a change of heart with no hard feelings towards Simon Cowell. Although she has put the incident behind her, she says she can’t pretend to be friends with him again. After giving birth to her son Ben in 2008 she hosted a variety of shows including Elton’s New Year’s Eve Party and Hello, Goodbye before landing a gig as the coordinator on Loose Women in 2009. Sadly, after just two years, she was sacked along with Zoe Tyler, a co-panelist, due to dwindled ratings. Shortly before her departure from the show, it was revealed live on air by The Star that she had split from her fiancé Darren Emerson. Kate stated that she and Darren had separated some time ago and that she felt an overwhelming sense of sadness which did not make her want to act out, but that she was determined to learn from it.
What is Kate Thornton Up To Today?
Following the axing from Loose Women, she enrolled in a 3-year counseling course in a bid, as she says, to change her career. She says she is learning a lot about herself by going back to college and doing a course on counseling skills which she hopes will help her become a qualified therapist. After hitting the curb a couple of times during her career she feels that this course helps her to take a long hard look at herself and it is quite tough sometimes. But even if nothing comes of it in a professional sense, Kate feels it will help make her a better broadcaster, journalist, and human being.
Cashback Website – Tbseen.com
Kate has since started a new online retail business with her website called TBSeen.com, a new cashback internet site which is targeted specifically at women and where she often shares videos of herself with TBSeen girls like Myleene Klass, Heidi Range, and Denise Van Outen on her social media account. The idea is very simple. You visit the TBSeen site, browse through the products and click on the brand you wish to shop with, and in return, they will refund you between 5% and 15% for your custom. The refund is reimbursed to the card you used for payment after a 30-day statutory returns period has expired.
Aside from her career, Kate is a doting mother to her son Ben from her four-year engagement to Darren Emerson.
