CBT Psychotherapy, art And How It Helps Modify Behaviour
Cognitive behavioural therapy or CBT psychotherapy with art is used to treat mental health problems. This form of therapy can boost happiness and modify behaviour by addressing dysfunctional behaviours, emotions, and thoughts. CBT differs from Freudian psychoanalysis in that it focuses on solutions and ways to challenge destructive behaviours rather than on the root causes. CBT with art provides patients tools and skills for solving current problems and modifying dysfunctional behaviour and thinking.
CBT uses many behavioral and cognitive techniques and isn’t defined by a single set of strategies. The therapist may work with the patient on problem-solving and freely borrow from other psychotherapeutic modalities. These may include Gestalt therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, compassion focused therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and solution focused therapy.
One of the primary benefits of CBT therapy is that it is generally shorter than other types of psychotherapy. CBT usually takes between five to ten months. The client generally attends one to 50-minute sessions weekly. During the session, the therapist and the client work on discovering and understanding the problems. They develop new coping strategies to help the patient modify their behaviour.
The goal of CBT therapy is to give a patient effective strategies and skills for dealing with problem behavior. These are part of a set of principles that the patient may use whenever necessary for the rest of their lives.
CBT therapy is a fairly recent type of psychotherapy. It was first developed in 1960 by Dr. Aaron Beck, a psychiatrist. Dr. Beck noticed that many of his therapy patients seemed to be having an internal dialogue which was often directing their behaviour. When asked, however, the patient could rarely explain what they were thinking.
London Psychotherapy expert Dr. Beck discovered that these thoughts and feelings would often populate a patient’s thoughts and the patient may not even be aware of what was happening. These thoughts were often destructive or negative and Beck found that if the patient could identify and vocalise the thoughts, they could come to understand their own behaviour.
CBT psychotherapy and art helps an individual understand how their thoughts and feelings are impacting their behavior.
