Going to the Fair

For our last week of summer camp we pretended to go to the fair.  There were lots of things we did, but I've only got a few photos to show.  We were just having too much fun!

Ferris Wheel Art:

Begin with a large circle made of a sturdy material.  Insert a brad thru the middle attaching it to a smaller sturdy circle.  Then attach some type of handle.  We used a paint stick!  The small circle allows the wheel to spin.

Next, add lines from the center outwards using a ruler.  These lines act as the spokes of the wheel.

Next add your carts!  We used some brightly colored collage squares I had lying around. You could go a step further and add brads to each of these so they rock like a real ferris wheel...but I just don't have the energy to do that for so many kids! :)

We then added people!  I found these cute little faces in my sticker box.  Perfect!  Oh, and those dots on the spokes? Those are the lights that light up the ferris wheel at night! :)
Sticky Candle Apple

The "sticky candy" was corn syrup and food coloring.  When dried the paper is shiny and only a bit sticky. :)

Apple cutout (on sturdy paper) glued to a Popsicle stick, paint on the sticky candy and VOILA! a sticky, gooey mess just like the real thing!

Other ideas:
Sensory bins:
1. Add air popped popcorn and small paper bags for a popcorn stand
2. Use fabric batting as cotton candy.  Add tweezers to pull apart, add to a rolled up paper cone.
3. Grind up ice cubes to make a "slushy" station!  (especially fun if it's hot in your neck of the woods...or desert in my case!)

1.Duck races...use squirt guns to move your rubber duck around a waiting pool
2. Knock down pins (2 liter soda bottles filled with water) with a ball
3. Balloon Pop
4. Face painting (not really a game, but we did it and the kids loved it!)
