Fun Ways To Play With Yarn

We had a blast playing around with yarn this week.  I found so many ideas on Pinterest (of course, were else!) and some of my fellow Early Childhood bloggers.  Here are some fun ways you can play with yarn, too!

Get all messy with it!  Dip and squish your yarn pieces in paint and drag it around your paper.

Yarn Collage: Snip lengths of yarn and glue to paper!  Gooey Glue (Elmer's glue) works much better than glue sticks.  Besides, gooey glue is much more fun!

Here is a collage of fun games to play using yarn...just tape your desired length to the floor and.....

Need help storing your yarn?  Simply use a tissue box, poke a hole in the front, stuff it with a ball (or tangled mess like mine) and feed the yarn through the hole.  Simple.  I found this fabulous and GENIUS idea from the fabulous Deborah (Teach Preschool).

I had been saving this particular container knowing that I would come up with an idea...and I have!  Using a box from a kitchen sealer (wax paper, saran wrap, aluminum foil, etc.), cut or rip off the saw, take out the tube insert, wrap your yarn (or ribbon) around the tube and then put it back in the box.  Now you can easily roll off yarn with out any tangled messes!

Yarn Weaving: I used a large piece of matting and wrapped yarn around it so kids could weave yarn through it.  Weaving is like a pattern..over, under, over, under!

Have you done anything fun with yarn?

  1. This post is so pinnable : ) I have just made the discovery of yard sales on the weekends. Yarn is now something I will never buy new again (it's so expensive!). I usually buy it for pennies on the dollar at yard sales : ) Love that last weaving activity--I'm going to try it!

I'd love to hear what your thoughts are...leave a comment! :)
