What's The Weather Like Today?

We're brewing up some weather in the classroom.  Storms, rainbows, wind- Oh, My! We just got over having some windy storms here in the desert and now the sun is shining and it is getting H-O-T!  It should be 100 degrees this weekend! The nice thing about learning weather is it is appropriate for any time of year and any region. Here are a few things we did this week.  You can also check out some great weather related things we did last year (that I also repeated this year).

This project was stolen inspired from Dilly-Dali Art.  She also has a great weather blog hop on this post!

This was a fun experiment we did with wind: I had the children go thru the classroom to pick a random object.  We then put each object in front of a fan (set on high) to see if it would roll away.  Many interesting things happened.  We found that some objects (like the cylinder block below) would blow away if put on it's side but not on the flat bottom.  We also found that the My Little Pony didn't blow, but her hair did.  We talked about the how's and why's, the heavy and light.  It was a great experiment!  If we would of had time we would of graphed things to take it a step further.

And for your enjoyment here are some cute songs we have been singing:

Great Big Rainbow
Sung to: "I'm a Little Teapot"

There's a great, big rainbow
In the sky,
With pretty colors
Way up high.
When it starts to rain
And the sun comes out-
A beautiful rainbow
Will pop out!

It is Raining
Tune: Frere Jacques

It is raining, it is raining
On my head, on my head
Pitter patter rain drops
Pitter patter rain drops
I’m all wet, I’m all wet!

Rain Song
Tune: If You’re Happy and You know it

First a little drop of rain hit the ground (tap tap)
Then another drop of rain hit the ground (tap tap)
Then another and another and another and another,
And pretty soon we heard a different sound SPLASH, SPLASH!

A Rainbow
Tune: Twinkle Little Star

When the rain falls from the sky   ( wiggle fingers like raindrops)
Don’t forget to look up high       (Shade eyes and look upward)
If the sun is shining bright      ( Circle arms above head)
A rainbow might be in sight    (Move arms in an arc)
Red, orange, yellow, green, and blue,     (Clap hands to beat)
And you’ll see there’s purple, too!

Muddy Days
Tune: The Itsy Bitsy Spider

Mud is wet and messy
But fun to play in too.
I squish it through my fingers
And make a pie for you.
When it gets all sunny,
The mud will go away.
And then we’ll have to wait until
It rains again someday.

  1. I just found this blog and was excited to find someone in the same climate as we are! I always have fun doing weather related projects with the Clubhouse Kids, especially when all they really now is hot, hotter, and really hot! :D

I'd love to hear what your thoughts are...leave a comment! :)
