BanG! bAng!

Construction Week!  Planning, hammering, building....

Here are a few things we've started on (just the beginning!).
First, you must plan what you are going to build.

Then, you must build!  I hung caution tape all over the room.  The Fire Marshall who came in to do our inspection questioned my fine art.  ;)

My "Oh, *&#@" moment when I realized I forgot my hammers...impromptu hammers: chopstick with a large wooden bead on top (think xylophone mallet).  Oh, and those white things...some sort of plastic (non)styrofoam packing material.  Works great...cause there isn't little pieces of styrofoam all over the place!

Matching nuts and bolts.  Great for little fingers!

Blue Prints: This was a fun new process we learned. We used foam pieces to draw a building onto. (yes, this is a school! how did you ever guess!!)  I traced over their drawings to make sure it was indented.  You can also use styrofoam meat trays.

Paint over the foam and then imprint onto paper.  They were squealing when they saw their designs on paper!

  1. Love the idea for printing with foam pieces! I never have meat trays around, so this would work great. We may try it. Great construction day :)

  3. Working on building our woodworking center now. Yikes! We're supposed to have real tools and hardware. I have some, but I'm not ready for heavy hammers and saws yet! (And I have that same caution tape in my room, too! With woodworking centers going in every classroom in our school, words has gotten around. It's been borrowed several times! ) Great job, Jessi!

  7. I love the blueprints! Also the simple nuts and bolts idea. I'm going to get some for my son. Maybe it'll keep him busy for awhile.
