I realize I am writing this AFTER Mother's Day, but many of my students mom's read my blog so I couldn't ruin their surprise.
So, every year we host a tea for each of our classes. The children sing songs, make their mom's a special gift and have a special lunch with them.
We move all the shelving to the sides of the room and put 'big people' tables and chairs up for the mom's (or grandmas, aunties). We decorate them with tiered trays of goodies, fancy napkins, plates and tea cups. We set out an array of teas and also some chilled water. Our menu this year consisted of chicken salad sandwiches, cheese/crackers, strawberries and mini brownies.
This is the gift we made the moms this year:
Peppermint bath salts. Made with epsom salts, a bit of baking soda (helps soften skin) and drops of peppermint oil. Although I didn't get a picture of the final product, this is the kids making the salts. We used some very cool bottles from Treasures 4 Teachers and tied a pretty ribbon around the top.
We also had the children draw their mommy's and asked a short interview of each child about their mom. The answers were hilarious!! My favorite was..."What is your mommy's favorite food?" Simply answered, "Anything!".
Another highlight of Mother's Day is that I got to celebrate as well. Kind of. I'm officially telling the world...my hubby and I are expecting our first child come Thanksgiving! We are nervous, scared, excited, anxious, blessed....the list goes on. :) This is my excuse as to why I've been so lax with the blogs...I simply didn't feel good. Now that the nausea is gone, watch out!!
I hope all of you had a blessed day yesterday!
